Ryan Mitchell, CAIA is an independent wealth manager and Managing Partner of Mitchell Financial Management, providing comprehensive, high-touch wealth management for a select group of high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families.

Ryan brings more than two decades of experience across institutional finance and private wealth management. He began his career in 2001 as a proprietary equities trader, developing a deep understanding of capital markets that continues to inform his investment approach. He later advised high- and ultra-high-net-worth clients at Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon Wealth Management, serving as a lead portfolio and relationship manager across complex client situations involving multi-asset portfolios, concentrated positions, and advanced planning strategies.

Recognizing the limitations of large institutions—such as proprietary constraints, limited flexibility, and structural inefficiencies—Ryan founded Mitchell Financial Management to deliver a more aligned, client-centric model. The firm operates in partnership with NewEdge Advisors, part of NewEdge Capital Group, an ~$88 billion independent RIA, combining independence with institutional-scale resources, research, and pricing.

This structure enables true open architecture. Ryan is not captive to any one firm’s research, products, or platform. He leverages institutional research while also conducting independent due diligence, providing multiple layers of insight and validation. As a fiduciary, he is fully aligned with his clients’ best interests.

He runs a highly selective, boutique practice, intentionally limiting the number of client relationships he maintains. This allows for deeper engagement and fully customized planning and investment strategies across all aspects of a client’s financial life.

Alternative Investments & CAIA Credential

Alternative investments have been a core focus of Ryan’s practice since 2005. His experience spans private equity, private credit, hedge funds, venture capital, infrastructure, real assets, sports/media/entertainment, structured notes, and other non-traditional strategies.

He holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation—the only globally recognized credential dedicated exclusively to alternative investments and held by fewer than 14,000 professionals worldwide. While many advisors offer access to alternatives, far fewer have the formal training required to evaluate them at a deeper level.

The CAIA curriculum focuses on the areas that drive outcomes in private markets: manager selection, due diligence, portfolio construction, and risk management. Alternative investments are inherently more complex than traditional markets—often less liquid, less transparent, and highly dependent on manager skill. Performance dispersion between top and bottom managers can be significant, and access alone is not a strategy.

Ryan’s combination of CAIA training, over two decades of experience, and ongoing research across managers, strategies, and macroeconomic trends enables a disciplined, highly selective approach. He focuses on identifying high-quality opportunities and integrating them thoughtfully within client portfolios.

He also serves on the NewEdge Alternative Investments and Crypto Committee, contributing to manager selection, due diligence, and platform development.

Comprehensive Wealth Management

Ryan provides integrated, goals-based advice across investment management, financial and tax planning, estate planning, retirement planning, private banking, and risk management—helping clients make better decisions across the full scope of their financial lives.

Client Focus

Ryan works with a limited number of high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients, including business owners, executives, and retirees with complex financial situations. His clients value independent advice, access to curated investment opportunities, and a relationship built on trust, transparency, and alignment.
